It may seem that Badulla is behind the mountains -it is! (and this makes out a great deal of
its attraction). Once here, however, you discover to be rather central! In a few kms'
distance are the famous Dunhinda Falls, the Woodden Bridge at Ketawella, (the UvaTeaplantations,
of couse) - the cave temple of Dowa Ella (20km), Ella Gap (25km), Addisham
Monastery (30km), N'Eliya & its Golf Course (50km), the ancient reliefs of Tanamalwila
(50km), or the Wedda Village at Mahiyagana (70km). Though little further, a day's trip can be
made to the beaches of Arugam Bay in the East, to the ruins of Polonnaruwa in the North,
to Kandy over Randenigalla Damm, or to the Yala National Park in the South. Several smaller wildlife
sanctuaries are still closer: Lahugalla, Bundala and Buttala. And at your feet lies Badulla town with its
ancient temple Muthiangana. Right beyond the town the Namunukulla Hill Range (second
highest on the Island) invites for hicking.
